Chapter 2, Part 1

Baraku had just left the hospital, making her way to the front door, when her cell went off.

“Oh, it's just a text,” she mused. “I'll read it later.” She exited the hospital and thought to herself. “Okay, so, where to next?”

“Kagome!” a voice, also known as Yuka, called out. “You're up! Are you feeling better?”

“Huh, Kagome?” Baraku wondered aloud. They must think that I'm Kagome, but it wouldn't be the first time that we've been confused for each other.

“Where are you going, Kagome?” Eri asked. “And why were you coming from the hospital?”

“Okay,” Baraku interrupted, “First off, my name's isn't Kagome. It's Baraku. Second, I was thinking about heading over to the Higurashi Shrine, but I'm hungry, plus I forgot how to get there. If all of you are wondering why Kagome and I look alike, it's because we're identical twins.”

Kagome's three friends were obviously surprised, eyes wide and mouths open, but they soon got over their shock. “Tell you what,” Yuka bargained, “we'll take you out if you explain why we haven't seen nor heard of you. Deal?”

Baraku nodded as she began to follow them. When they finally arrived at WacDonald's, their favorite hangout, they went inside and sat at their usual table.

“So, start talking.” said Yuka.

“Alright, already. Well, it all started…”

“They're fighting again, Baraku,” five-year-old Kagome frowned. “What can we do to make them stop?”

“I think we'd better stay out of this, Kagome,” said Baraku. “I hate the fighting too, but I don't think there's anything we can do.”

“Kagome, Baraku,” their father called them over, “we have something that we want to tell you.”

“What's that, Father?” they asked.

“Well,” he continued, “as you've heard in the past, your mother and I have been having disagreements on a lot of things. We've decided to get a divorce.”

The two didn't know what that meant, but they did hear about it from older kids walking by at times; they agreed on it: whatever it was, it was bad.

“Did you explain it to them?” Mother asked as she came into the room.

“Yes, I did,” he replied, “and they don't like it.”

“You don't understand it all yet, but you will someday.” Their mother looked at the twins and smiled reassuringly, but they couldn't find anything positive to see on the matter.

“Come on, Baraku!” her father called. “If we don't hurry, the plane's going to leave us behind.”

“I don't wanna go!” she cried loudly. “I don't wanna! I want to stay with you, Okaa-san, Kagome, and Jii-san, all together!”

“Nee-chan! Otou-san!” Kagome cried as she watched as they boarded the plane. She didn't know the next time she would see them.

“After that, I never saw her again,” Baraku finished through her tears.

“Gomen nasai, we didn't know,” comforted Yuka with a tender hug. “We didn't mean to upset you and make you cry.”

“Here's a tissue,” offered Eri.

“Arigatou,” Baraku murmured, accepting it. Just then, Baraku's cell went off. “Again! Does the thing ever shut up?”

“Why don't you answer it?” asked Yuka.

“If it's who I think it is,” Baraku's eyes thinned, anime style, “then I don't want to.”

“Well, who is it then?” asked Eri.

“Probably my ex. We broke up a while ago, but he still insists on calling me to take him back. Uggh, he's tried everything in the book to try to make me take him back! I'm just going to have to get his number blocked.” She sighed loudly.

“Just answer it and see,” Eri said. She nodded and reluctantly agreed:

“Baraku,” a voice rung from the other end of the phone call, “I've been trying to phone you for a week now, sis. Was your cell turned off?”

“S-Souta?” her eyes widened. “Is that you? How'd you get my number?”

His voice sounded as though he was rolling his eyes, but she couldn't know for sure. “I got it off your AIM profile, and yes, it's me. So, when are you coming over?”

“When I find the shrine. It's been a long time since I've been there, and I forgot the way.”

“Where are you?”

“Well, I'm at the WacDonald's, where Kagome always hangs out with her friends.”

“That's not far. Just get Yuka and the others to show you the way.”

She nodded, although he couldn't see her. “Alright.”

“Where have you been, and why is he here with you?” Inuyasha yelled. Kagome had to cover her ears from the loud sound.

“For starters,” Kouga snapped, “how dare you yell at my woman like that!”

“She's not yours, you mangy wolf!” Inuyasha cried. The two were so engrossed with their fighting that they didn't even notice Kagome starting to shake uncontrollably.

Kagome and Baraku were coming home from their friend's house, three doors down, when they heard their parents at it again. Their dad had been drinking heavily again, and their mom was sick of it. She had tried everything to reason with him, but naturally, when someone is drunk, they don't listen very well and lose their tempers quickly.

The girls ran inside, only to find their dad trying to trash the living room and trying to beat the crap out of their mother. The twins dropped their bags that they had received from their friends' family, and, without thinking, ran to protect their mother.

Their father was about strike again when the girls jumped him. He noticed the extra weight on him and started to swing his arms every which way he could. The girls held on for dear life while listening to their mother practically screaming at them to run and hide.

The girls ignored her and proceeded to bite down into their father's arm and shoulder. Their father screamed as he ruthlessly and effortlessly threw the two across the room, only to have Kagome slam into a mirror, thus causing glass to go deep into her back, and Baraku landing on and breaking the glass table, causing glass to go into her right arm and back as well.

Their mother screamed in horror when she saw this occur and tried to run to her children, only to have their father knock her down. Baraku and Kagome were bleeding badly.

“I must protect…must…protect…” Baraku muttered to herself weakly as she tried to find her footing. She struggled to get to her feet, her vision blurred from blood loss as her blood dripped down her clothes, painting her clothes blood red.

“Stop it!” Kagome shouted, beginning to cry. “Both of you! I'm sick of this fighting! Please. Stop this fighting! I can't take it anymore!” She sobbed, her shoulders shaking.

“Kagome!” Inuyasha said softly.

“Kagome,” Kouga approached her, “please don't cry, love. I'm right here.” Kagome didn't see him come near as she dropped to her knees, crying.

I have to go now! Why did that painful memory have to pop up? I hate this fighting, and these breakdowns are not helping at all! I thought I had control over these flashbacks! Inuyasha's not making it any better for me; he's only making it worse!

“Kagome,” he said softly, bending down next to her, “I'm here for you. I'll never hurt you or let you get hurt. I'll protect you forever, if you'd only let me.”

“Kouga,” Kagome whispered, crying on his shoulder, “please don't fight with him. I've seen enough fighting in my life. Please…” As she cried, Kouga turned his head so he could speak to Inuyasha.

“Look what you've done!” he scolded. “You drove my Kagome to tears!”

“She ain't yours!” Inuyasha shouted, causing her to bury her head deeper into Kouga's shoulder.

“Kagome…” he whispered as his head diverted from Inuyasha to Kagome. “I'm here, my Kagome.” He wrapped his arms around her protectively, trying to comfort her.

“I just want the fighting to stop Kouga,” she muttered. “That's all I want.”

“If you wish for me to stop fighting with him, I will. For you and only you, I'll do anything.” For now, I'm going to kill that mutt for causing my Kagome pain! “Shh, I'm here now. It's going to be okay. I'll always be here for you.” He rocked her back and forth, like a parent would to a scared, small child.

After she cried herself dry, she got up and went over to Sango.

“What is it, Kagome?” her friend asked, a concerned look in her eye at Kagome's sad expression.

“May I borrow Kirara? I want to go home.”

“Sure,” she nodded. “We'll wait for you at Kaede's village.”

Kagome nodded as she flew off on Kirara's back.

“Baraku,” said Gramps as he hugged her, “I missed you so much!”

“I missed you too!” she grinned.

“Hey,” Souta pouted, “what about me?”

“I missed you too, Squirt!” she exclaimed as she bear-hugged him.

“Baraku,” her mother said softly from behind her, “it's been far too long.”

“Mother!” she cried, leaping at her. “I missed you the most!”

Her family showed her around the new house. She explored everything, from the den to the kitchen, and finally retiring to Kagome's room.

She noticed that instead of a single bed as she first thought it was, it was, instead, a bunk bed. She looked around the room until something caught her eye: a small, glass bottle on Kagome's dresser. She walked over to it and picked it up.

Just then, she felt her entire body pulsing. She began to feel dizzy, so she walked over to the bed and lay down.

Before she knew it, she was out.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

In the distance, Baraku saw a dog-eared boy with a huge sword, a large cat with flames shooting out of its paws and tails, a small talking fox, an old lady, a girl with a huge boomerang, a monk, and her sister, Kagome.

“I shall have the power of both demons and the Shikon no Tama combined!” said the oni.

“What's going on here?” she asked herself silently.

“Sango, look out!” the monk yelled out. Sango saw the on-coming attack and jumped out of the way.

“Inuyasha,” the oni cackled, “I shall have the Tama that Kikyou couldn't!”

"You'll never have the Jewel, not on my watch!” Kagome yelled as she fired a Sacred Arrow, piercing the oni's heart with a pink light.

“I will return!” the oni cried as it turned to dust.

“What's this about?” Baraku muttered to himself, sure she was dreaming. “And what is the Shikon no Tama? Who are these people, and why in hell is my sister involved?” She paused, blinking to herself. “Who's…Kikyou?”
